I took this photo in a forest somewhere near Zaķumuiža, Latvia. I remember the day was very serene, woods being very dense, so it was mostly dark, even at midday. But this little sapling, it had found a spot to grow right where trees gave way to light for it.

The story behind this picture is very nice and the picture tells all. The lighting in the picture is very cool and I love how the sapling is the main vocal point of the picture, your eyes are naturally focusing on the sapling and not at some random thing in the background. I also like how the textures of the plant go with the texture of the dirt. As I have said before i love the lighting and how it ties the scene together. You could almost see the sapling reaching with its leaves toward the sunlight, and practically growing before your eyes. All in all, a very nice piece of photography.

My first thought when I see this, is "New Life". Then after reading the description, I feel it even more. I love how the sapling is in focus, while the background around it is out of focus. This helps me to see the new sapling even better. I love how the sunlight hits the sapling, highlighting it even more. The picture is so clear and beautiful. Looking at it, I feel calm and happy. I feel hope also, for this new little tree being given a chance to grow some place very far from me. The colors add to this feeling!
